Our Story

Giovanna and Tommy first matched on Bumble on July 25, 2022, coincidentally, on the very date Giovanna’s horoscope had predicted would be her “special day.”

Just a few days later, on July 28, they met in person at a charming restaurant in Bethesda, Maryland and instantly felt a spark. Though they grew up worlds apart, they were surprised to learn that their values, humor, and interests were actually quite similar. That night, Giovanna came to understand that Tommy’s love/hate relationship with OSU football would mean dedicating their autumns to moments of intense highs and lows, and Tommy reluctantly accepted that Giovanna would never be on time for anything (including that date). By the end of the night, Giovanna had already texted her friends that she had met her future husband.

Since then, the couple has found that their differences are their greatest strength. He’s calm, rational, and meticulous; she’s lively, passionate, and spontaneous. He steadies her and she inspires him. Together, they share a love for good food, traveling, and spending cozy weekends at home rewatching Lord of the Rings. Whether they’re exploring a new city or taking long walks around the block with their new puppy, Finn, they’ve found that even life’s simplest moments are made extraordinary by each other’s company.

Giovanna and Tommy are now delighted to share the beauty of her homeland with their closest friends and family as they embark on their biggest adventure yet. They are grateful for each and every one of your roles in their journey, and can’t wait to celebrate with you on July 18, 2026.

Travel

Visa

All U.S. nationals are required to obtain a visa in order to visit Brazil. Please visit the below United States and Brazilian government-authorized websites information on travel guidelines and visa requirements:

Getting to Brasilia

The Brasilia International Airport (BSB) is the main gateway into the city, located about 15 minutes from the city center. The airport is modern and easy to navigate, with reliable transportation options including taxis and Uber.

GOL offers direct flights from the U.S. to Brasilia via Miami (MIA) and Orlando (MCO). Other 1+ stop options are available on major airlines such as American and United Airlines. For those travelling in Brazil before or after the wedding, there are many reasonably priced domestic flights throughout the country.

Currency

Brazil’s local currency is the Brazilian Real (R$). Most places accept major credit and debit cards such as Visa and Mastercard. It’s helpful to carry a small amount of cash for taxis, street vendors, or smaller establishments that may not accept cards. ATMs are widely available in Brasília, and currency exchange services can be found at airports and major banks.

Keep in mind that prices in Brazil typically include tax and service fees, and tipping is appreciated but not expected.

Weather

July is winter in Brasília, bringing clear skies, low humidity, and mild, comfortable weather. Days can get toasty, while evenings are cooler and perfect for warm layers. Temperatures may range from the high-70s°F during the day to the low-50s°F at night.

Voltage
Brazil uses Type N outlets with a voltage of 127V or 220V, depending on the location.
Brasilia’s voltage is 220V. A universal adapter is always a safe choice.

Recommendations

Built in the 1950s by Oscar Niemeyer and Lucio Costa, Brasilia blends modernistic architecture with thoughtful urban planning. Its layout resembles an airplane in flight; its wings feature residential “Superblocks” each with self-contained communities comprised of homes, schools, parks, and shops. The body of the airplane is home to many attractions such as the Esplanade of the Ministries, The National Congress, and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Brasilia.

To help you make the most of your visit, Tommy and Giovanna created a map with some of their favorite restaurants and local sights. Whether you’re looking for a great meal, a scenic walk, or a bit of local culture, they hope this guide will help you experience the best of Brasília with ease.
